Ayurvedic Medicine of India is not regulated in the US at this time.  Thus, there is no minimum standard which persons must meet before being allowed to accept patients.    In order to have Ayurvedic Medicine regulated to provide a safeguard to the public as provided in other health care professions, AAPRA has filed a petition in Maryland in 2005 and in Virginia in 2006 for the regulation and licensing of AMI graduates (BAMS).  More information can be found on the following sites.

More about Ayurvedic Products

Studies have shown that supplements are beneficial as adjuncts to standardized western treatments for specific illnesses and can perhaps enhance recovery. They are being recommended due to their overall health promoting qualities; the person's individual body type/constitution and current health state determine which one is chosen. Many of the herbs present in the products have well documented pharmacological studies supporting the therapeutic value of the products.

The purpose of the Ayurvedic consultation is to help a person regain a positive healthy status in both body and mind, and maintain good health. It is recommended that patients receive consultation to determine daily routine, dietary habits, nutrition, exercise, life style, and dietary supplements to bring back the harmony of the body and mind. These recommended changes assist as an adjunct to whatever treatment patients are currently getting and eventually result in overall improved health. Ayurvedic consultation is provided as a part of the traditional health care system of
India.
